On the Water
Racing at Falmouth Yacht Club is a strong part of our identity! Our Club racing happens every Saturday throughout the summer. The annual Falmouth Regatta happens in July.

This annual race, which marks the beginning of the Figawi weekend, is a cherished tradition for both young and old.

The Sonar is a 7m (23 ft) one-design keelboat for three to five people. It is Bermuda-rigged, with a large mainsail and a 100% jib. The class is recognized by the International Sailing Federation. The Sonar was designed in 1979 by Bruce Kirby, designer of the popular Laser dinghy. Since then, over 800 boats have been built. Most of the fleet is in the USA, with smaller fleets in Britain and Canada. Since its adoption as a Paralympic class the Sonar has spread to many other countries as well.

At the Falmouth Yacht Club, we proudly sail a fleet of Club 420s almost every day during the summer, fostering a passion for sailing in our community. With exceptional coaching, our program travels throughout New England to participate in numerous regattas, showcasing our dedication and skill. Each year, we also host one of the finest annual regattas right off the beach, celebrating our love for the sport and the vibrant spirit of our club.

The largest one-design fleet in the world, the Optimist was originally crafted in Clearwater, Florida, to challenge the spirit of the soap box derby. It has since evolved into a powerful breeding ground for champion sailors, inspiring generations to pursue their dreams on the water.
